in Africa. In the past, Chad
has faced wars, droughts, and
disease. With many different
languages and cultures, Chad
is a very diverse and independent
country.

1960 - Chad became independent from
France, but remained within the French community.
Francois Tombalbaye became the 1st president. 1965–1979 - Civil War in Chad. 1974 - Oil is discovered in Chad. 1980 -War with Libya. 1992 - An agreement was made on sharing water from
Nubian sandstone aquifer system, the largest in the
world, located under Chad, Egypt, Libya and Sudan.
